Why is monitoring NO2 important?
Nitrogen Dioxide is a highly reactive oxidant and corrosive. The primary sources indoors are combustion processes, such as unvented combustion appliances, e.g. Diesel engines, gas stoves, vented appliances with defective installations, welding, and tobacco smoke. NO2 also plays a major role in atmospheric reactions that produce ground-level ozone, a major component of smog.

In people with asthma, exposure to low levels of NO2 may cause increased bronchial reactivity and susceptibility to respiratory infections. Long-term exposure to high levels of NO2 can lead to chronic bronchitis. Studies show a connection between breathing elevated short-term NO2 concentrations, and increased visits to emergency departments and hospital admissions for respiratory issues, especially asthma http://www.epa.gov/asthma/no2.html
